The ghost mannequin effect makes clothing look as if it is worn by an invisible person. The garment is photographed on a mannequin, the mannequin is removed in post-production, and where needed a separate shot of the inside (for example the back of the collar) is composited in.

The effect gives garments a full-bodied, three-dimensional shape while keeping attention on the product. It is widely used for apparel on e-commerce sites as an alternative to flat lay or on-model photography.
